HAYDEN GENERATING STATION, Hayden, CO

Hayden Generating Station is a 446 MW coal-fired power station originally constructed in 1965 in Hayden, Colorado, currently operated by Xcel Energy.  D.L. Adams aided in assessing the noise impact of renovations to the Unit 1 and 2 fans and motors to improve efficiency and sustainability as part of a larger emissions reduction plan at the Station under the Colorado Clean Air Clean Jobs Act.

Our involvement consisted of a series of short-term and long-term measurements, both on-site and at remote locations near the facility.  Precise spectral analysis of “Fast Fourier Transform” (FFT) measurement data allowed us to evaluate the correlation of sound levels at the plant to sound levels at neighboring properties, which led to alterations that resulted in a significant reduction of noise emission from the plant while maintaining operating efficiency.
