Theatre Consultant / Systems Designer (Senior Consultant / Associate Principal) – Denver, CO (Hybrid)

We are seeking a highly accomplished Theatre Consultant / Systems Designer with 5 years minimum experience (2 + years at Senior Consultant or above. In this role, you will lead the planning, design, documentation, and oversight of theatrical and performance/presentation systems.

You will collaborate with architects, engineers, owners, and contractors to design and specify integrated performance lighting and rigging systems for theatres, arenas, complex public assembly venues. The ideal candidate brings both artistic sensibility and deep technical expertise, along with a strong command of AEC documentation standards.

Core Responsibilities
Venue & Planning Design

  • Develop auditorium geometries, sightline analyses, and seating layouts
  • Plan stage houses, fly towers, gridirons, and backstage support spaces
  • Define performer/audience circulation and operational adjacencies

Theatrical Systems Design

  • Design and specify:
    • Counterweight rigging systems (single purchase, double purchase)
    • Motorized rigging (hoists, winches, control systems)
    • Stage machinery (lifts, traps, turntables)
    • Theatrical lighting systems (fixtures, dimming, control networks)
  • Develop system narratives, one-lines, and performance criteria
  • Produce equipment schedules and interface requirements
  • Maintain QC across SD, DD, CD deliverables
  • Ensure alignment between design intent and contract documents
  • Apply IBC, ANSI, and relevant life-safety and accessibility codes
  • Conduct site observations and punchlist reviews
  • Participate in commissioning and system verification

Project Management and Mentoring

  • Lead multidisciplinary team (theatre, audio-visual and acoustical) through complex performance projects – educational, community, professional and commercial.
  • Mentor and train theatre consulting staff

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years relevant experience in theatrical consulting or systems design (2+ years as a Senior Consultant or above)
  • Demonstrated delivery of Design–Bid–Build projects
  • Proven experience writing and coordinating CSI specifications
  • Advanced Revit proficiency (preferred) and strong AutoCAD skills
  • Technical expertise in rigging, stage machinery, and lighting systems integration
  • Working knowledge of building systems coordination

Staff Acoustical Consultant – Denver, CO (Hybrid)
Salary: $65,000-$90,000

About the Role

We are seeking an entry to mid-Level acoustical consultant/engineer for a staff consultant position in the firm’s Denver, Colorado office. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field of acoustics, engineering, architecture or science and a minimum of 2 years acoustical consulting experience.

As a staff consultant you will be an active member of our technical staff and will work under the direction of the firm’s Senior and Principal Consultants.

Conducting acoustical analyses and developing recommendations for room acoustics, airborne and structure-borne sound insulation, and HVAC system noise and vibration control engineering.

  • Preparing design documents, writing reports, participating in design team meetings, coordinating with other design team members concerning acoustical design details, and developing acoustical criteria for different types of facilities.
  • Conducting field measurements (sound transmission loss, impact noise insulation, reverberation time, environmental noise, etc.)
  • A working knowledge of acoustical modeling software such as EASE, Cadna-A, AIM, and V-A Design is a definite plus.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field of engineering or science
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in architectural acoustics consulting or similar field
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Exceptional people skills

Compensation

  • Competitive compensation aligned with the Denver senior AEC market. Salary range $65,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience.
